Technology is a key enabler to providing quality health outcomes - and seamless integration of the various healthcare systems is critical in any modern hospital.
That’s why we are focused on delivering useable, practical and customised solutions that actively support – and improve – existing clinical workflows. We make sense of your data and ensure it supports you in delivering the best level of care possible, while helping you to make the most of your IT investment. The HiMed Cockpit platform is compatible with most hospital based servers and protocols, including Microsoft, Citrix and VMWare.
Improve clinical workflows
The HiMed Cockpit is tailored to the needs and requirements of clinicians. We take the time to get to know your hospital, and create system connections that support the way you do things. The HiMed platform integrates with hospital information systems, the EMR, and databases such as pharmacy and pathology, among others presenting the information you need at the point-of-care – so you can increase collaboration, reduce risk, save time and deliver better patient care.
Introduce immediate cost savings
When teams work better together, cost savings follow. But it doesn’t end there. The HiMed Cockpit platform also integrates with supporting systems such as hospital meal ordering and menu management. This allows patients to be more in control of food choices, helps prevent food wastage and reduces the need for staff to be involved in order collection. The ability to integrate with external payment gateways provides the option for patients to pay for (all or some) patient entertainment services through their patient smartcard.
Work with experts in healthcare system integration
With over 22 years’ experience in designing, planning and implementing critical communication systems, we know that a new system will only deliver desired outcomes if it supports and improves your workflows. This is why system integration with third party healthcare technologies is a key element of every project and our team of IT and Network Engineers offers advanced consultation services, including a customised needs and workflow analysis.
Good hospital communication is critical to supporting better patient outcomes. And the patient experience is better if they can stay informed and connected.
With up to 80% of hospital errors being caused by breakdown in communication, the importance of sound communication workflows is clear. Not only can the HiMed Cockpit solution transform clinical collaboration and teamwork, it also improves communication flow between clinicians and patients and their families. It enables patients to feel empowered in their care and stay up-to-date on their progress and their healthcare schedule, while also staying connected to the outside world.
Improve clinical collaboration
The HiMed Cockpit point-of-care terminal enables secure access to a patient’s electronic medical record (EMR) through a pre-programmed smartcard – with RFID options also available. Through this bedside workstation, doctors and nurses are able to view history, make updates, manage prescriptions, request treatment, and set notifications for other team members. Video conferencing enables remote interaction with colleagues and / or the patient if required.
Enhance the patient experience
Patients do better when they are informed and engaged in their care. The HiMed Cockpit provides the clinical team with access to the patient’s complete medical record at the point-of-care. The patients use the terminal to access their daily activity schedule, list of care givers and their food and entertainment menus. Families can stay in touch via phone or video conferencing and patients may choose to take part in external activities such as online study.
Help to minimise communication errors
The bedside terminal can replace all paper records and instructions, and previous communication tools such as whiteboards. This helps to eliminate the risk of information being lost, and all records automatically move with the patient as they transition to different parts of the hospital. To assist non-English speaking patients, the HiMed Cockpit can present the user interface in 12 languages, including within the browser.
Security and privacy of patient and hospital data is a key priority in any facility. Yet, the growing volume of data can make this a very daunting task.
Data security is also a key priority for us as we plan, design and implement our solutions. The thin client architecture of the HiMed Cockpit uses read-only protected storage which helps ensure protection from malicious users and system corruption, and results in less maintenance for hospital support teams. Software images and deployments are centrally managed from the HiMed Server, which uses hashing algorithms to ensure the software images are approved. If an unauthorised modification is found, then a reload of the software is automatically executed, removing any malicious or modified system files.
Maintain integrity of hospital records
Bedside access to a patient’s medical record is available only to authorised clinical staff via a pre-programmed smart card - with RFID recognition options also available. While staff are able to make updates and changes, the read-only configuration ensures that no data can be removed or externally recorded. The HiMed Cockpit guarantees that no zero-day viruses or malware exist in its platform, which is built and tested in a highly secure and stringently audited environment.
Protect patient privacy
Each patient logs-into their bedside terminal through their own individual smartcard to access their information and settings. This includes personal details, dietary requirements, healthcare team, treatment schedule, and entertainment viewing history. As this information is stored on the server, it moves with the patient and is not available to anyone else;-even web viewing history is removed when a patient moves on.
Protect clinical staff
Individual access to the HiMed Cockpit terminals is logged and tracked. This removes the risk associated with generic log-in details or shared user accounts. In addition to the industry standard Public Key Infrastructure for authentication of hospital staff, all communication on the HiMed platform is secured using Secure Sockets Layer encryption. This further protects the session from eavesdropping and other attacks.
Total Cost of Ownership
Most technology investments require a business case. Begin by understanding the total cost of ownership.
As with any IT solution, the total cost of a patient entertainment system includes not only the initial purchase price, but also the ongoing upgrade, maintenance, and running costs. The HiMed Cockpit platform is a thin client system and can deliver significant savings in the total cost of ownership when compared to fat client competitors. Seamless integration with other systems – such as patient administration or electronic meal ordering – can also help to support a quicker return on investment.
Save on hardware replacement and maintenance
The expected lifespan of the HiMed Cockpit bedside terminals and servers is approximately 10 years. Traditional, or ‘fat client’, architecture requires renewal every 3-5 years due to end-of-life of operating systems and hardware age constraints. The centralised user operating environment allows all software upgrades and most maintenance tasks to be completed at the server.
Reduce running costs
The thin-client design of the HiMed Cockpit solution means that the bedside terminals contain no moving parts, and that they utilise a lower-power processor and chipsets. As a result, the power consumption of these bedside terminals is up to 40% less than other patient entertainment systems. The heat output of the terminals is also significantly reduced, providing further savings in climate control running costs.
Make smart connections for a fast ROI
Integration of the HiMed Cockpit platform with other systems is a key component of every project. And the resulting efficiencies can have immediate and significant cost savings – for example, the reduced food wastage and staffing cost enabled by electronic meal ordering. We also work with you to ensure you leverage your existing investments. If a current system is working well for you, we will ensure it integrates seamlessly with the HiMed solution.
